From the archives: Jeanette Fitzsimons is one of New Zealand's most high-profile environmentalists and has been Co-leader of the Green Party since 1995.

For the last 12 years Jeanette has seen the Greens raise issues and points of view never before heard in parliamentary debate in this country. In many ways they have changed the law, and are starting to change hearts and minds. Eventually the paradigm will change.

"Being Green is certainly not about forcing your lifestyle onto others," says Jeanette. "It's showing how it is possible to live a rich, fulfilling lifestyle with less impact on nature."

GreenplanetFM interviews Jon Carapiet, national spokesperson for GE Free NZ

Thursday, October 16th 2008 @ 1:18 PM (not yet rated)    post viewed 1722 times

From the archives: Jon Carapiet is national spokesperson for GE Free NZ (in food and environment); a market researcher and leading advocate for 'Brand New Zealand'; a writer, commentator and artist-photographer.

Jon has been a leader in the GE debate since 1998 and was inspired to get involved in the issue because of the wide-ranging implications of genetic engineering becoming commercialised around the world.

“My commercial experience helps give me a perspective on many of the Green issues that the business world is only now waking up to.” says Jon. “The potential for business to do harm or alternatively, be part of the solution is a key issue facing us all.”

Jon has drawn on his expertise in Branding to argue for an ‘ethical biotechnology and science strategy’ for New Zealand that respects community values, and the country’s international reputation.

“The Buy-Kiwi made campaign and keeping New Zealand’s food and environment GE-free are just two elements among many that can contribute to sustainable social and economic development for ‘brand New Zealand’. The Green Party is a voice for a middle-path that those who are purely money-driven and short-sighted must heed.”

Jon Carapiet is a member of the Green Party Aotearoa
