40 Burmese refugee kids just got fed !!!

Thursday, February 18th 2010 @ 1:14 PM (not yet rated)    post viewed 677 times

WOW !!! Just letting you know I am THRILLED to have today made a small, first 'giving' via Buy 1 Give 1.

Early days, but I got the ball rolling:

I chose a 'cause' that matched both my country/interest (eg Thailand : a Burmese border refugee camp) for US$0.20 donated from each Body Balance transaction, this buys one child-orphan a nutritious meal (I can change my contribution, cause, frequency whenever I like).

100% of the fund goes from my PayPal account DIRECT to the cause (in this case "Child's Dream Association" www.childsdream.org) , not to or thru B1G1. I will do this at the end of each calendar month.

Try this calculation:

  • Say in January I had 600bv in my Life Force organisation, divided 33bv that = 18 x 2-packs of Body Balance (on various levels)
  • Total 36 bottles commission/income was NZ$85.23 : average = NZ$2.37 per bottle
  • Using the 10% Tithing 'rule' means NZ$0.237 goes to my cause per bottle (I rounded it up to US$0.20 cos it matched the cause I wanted to start with!)
  • So 36 (actually I made it up to 40) bottles at US$0.20 = US$8.00

Doesn't sound much ?

Try this, 40 kids just got fed today! Have you ever been in a Thai/Burmese orphanage at meal time ? It GOES OFF, believe me !!!!!

I'm not sure if you can yet see my B1G1 profile, but try this : http://www.buy1-give1free.com/index.php/Business/b1g1-business-lisiting.html

Now I can truthfully say : "For every bottle of Body Balance you buy, a child in Burma/Thailand gets a nutritious meal".

Have you any idea how good THAT feels ?

And I have been talking to two contacts : Richard of Trek Aid in Nepal (through whom I sponsored my Tibetan boy for 12 years) and Mirielle in Florida, who runs Global Legacy Partners (trade/aid type) projects in Guatemala and Bolivia : both of these are very keen to get joined to B1G1.

The next part (for me) is to let more people know about this and how they too can use their business / transactions to give to THEIR causes too : could become something very powerful we have going within the NZ culture...

Visit www.B1G1.com or contact me and ask me stuff !!

Social Entrepreneurship : Buy 1 Give 1

Wednesday, February 17th 2010 @ 1:21 PM (not yet rated)    post viewed 555 times

Following on from the recent creation of Friends of the World, (an initiative to direct more of my residual / referral-based income to a fund that is put to 1-1 use with people in Nepal, Guatemala and other connections soon to be made), I have this week joined as a member of Buy 1 Give 1; an inspiring organisation where each and every transaction now results in an immediate benefit for others.

Imagine, (for eg) every time you dine out, a hungry child in India gets fed : that every time you buy a book, a tree gets planted; that every time you bought a coffee, a child in Burma got clean drinking water ...

As more and more businesses look for ways of connecting, not just 'selling' and thus creating loyalty and 'WOW' with their clients and peers, GIVING is becoming a fundamental, and follows through on our previous topics on Social Entrepreneurship, not merely Social Responsibility.

If you haven't already heard of this concept or organisation, or you have but are open to learn more and find your own unique contribution, please check www.B1G1.com

Buy1Give1 is great we joined our company Skybright Natural Health up this time last year.
We are very proud to say every time a Skybright product is sold no matter how big or small, we give fresh water to a child in Africa for 1 week through the Well Wishers Trust.
It takes so little to be able to give so much.
We chose to give the gift of water because our business is based on Colloidal Silver Products and most of our donations come from the sale of Colloidal Silver Liquids.
I recommended it to every business. It is a great feeling knowing that you are giving back.
The thing we liked about B1G1 was that you paid your admin fee to B1G1 at the start and then you could be sure that all your donations are going direct to your chosen cause.

I agree wholeheartedly : the transparency of the 'giving' is so important, with many people feeling that normal charitable giving becomes sometimes in competition for each dollar with the 'business costs' of running the admin etc : yes, B1G1 are very clear : the giving is done as a calc each month, based on your businesses 'transactions' and the amount you agreed to give per trans: then you just pay direct to the cause itself, and so all goes direct without passing thru the B1G1 org hands in any way : makes it easier for them too, I would imagine :-)
