If You’re a Dog, You Gotta Bark!

Thursday, December 8th 2011 @ 1:14 PM (2 ratings)    post viewed 4887 times

I'm unlikely to ever utter the words "I'm having a baby". But something close to that is happening.

"I'm publishing a book!"

And it really isn't so hard these days either, I've discovered. PublishMe in New Plymouth are doing a limited first-edition run of 25 for me, which will be in my hands in just a few weeks.

Well, ok, it’s the product of 18 months’ writing, typing and editing etc, but more importantly almost 20 years of resource-experience-gathering.

The end result is to have this work as a reference itself for others who may find themselves in challenging circumstances in life, but not know what’s happening, or where to go for validation and information.

Another way to say it is that this book offers access to a wide range of authors and material all in a ‘One Stop Shop’ way, distilling out some of the key and inter-related points, whilst weaving them in with my own illustrated experiences for continuity.

True to the title, "If You’re a Dog, You Gotta Bark!" is written in a natural, creative style, which I think readers will warm to: sincere and educational, though at times ironically humourous, brutally candid, frank but illuminating, connective and almost unavoidably unconventional.....

This must be a bit like how it feels to give birth....I mean, you carry this thing around for soooo many months, feeding it and preparing for it and stuff, then when it first 'pops out' it's sort of so familiar, and yet like an alien...I mean I have looked at my pages on Word and PDF for a year, and now I find in actual 'physical form' I am having to make 'friends with it' this evening, as I go thru each page and illustration, look at the margins and font size, which all look about strangely proportioned....surreal !!!

That felt such a good way to start the day: Having sold 19 books so far, therefore 19 kids in India just got 1 week of art therapy to encourage them to develop their creative expression....BIG THANKS to all those who've bought a book so far, and thus making this act possible: This project, it's 'giving' and similar about this cause and others can be tracked here: http://www.b1g1.com/buy1give1/businessstory?companyID=228

Something very satisfying goes on with the feelings 'inside' when one receives praise, positive feedback and even 'orders' (in the income sense, not the military sense !!!)..

So the Book goes 'International'with 2 orders from Aussie (Perth and Melbourne) and 2 from UK, plus enquiry/positive feedback from someone in Brazil !!!!! WOOF !!!

Can anyone else relate to this feeling of 'fulfilment' ?

Well, today's the day: The Books have just arrived by Courier post from the publishers (www.publishme.co.nz) and I couldn't be happier !

I always suspected it would feel food to behold several boxes full of 'my own book' and it does !

But beyond that short euphoria, what else? Will the book continue to sell, break even, make a small profit? Will there be a second edition, or even a Follow Up book ("What Barking Dog did Next")?

All I know is that now, both with the Paperback ready to ship out to those patient first pre-paid customers, and with the E-Book/PDF now available on www.dogbark.info my greater wish is that those who read, or hear about and get anything at all form this work, even one small piece, but which could make a shift so that something bigger, greater, brighter or more possible in life can happen for someone, then I am proud to have done my job.

Enjoy: And remember, no matter what: "If You're  Dog, You Gotta BARK!" Smile
