Somebody once said "Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation leans on the doorbell".
Never a truer word was spoken. I know, because this week I have been sorely tempted and it has taken a LOT of willpower for me to embrace the opportunity I have been given and to stick to the path.
Here's a short list of some of the things I'd really really like to eat, not in any particular order:
- Fish and chips
- Any type of Indian curry
- Any type of Thai food
- Eggs, any style
- Bread and butter
- Avocado
- Cheese
In fact, a large bucket containing all of the above mixed together would do just fine. And I'd be back for seconds.
Oily, fatty things seem to be what I'm missing (exactly what I'm not having on the hCG diet).
But no. Can't do that. I have to keep reminding myself why I'm doing this. It gets tough, though, when progress slows down and you are not seeing tangible results. This week I've not been too happy with my weightloss and have had to make a few adjustments.
One of the confusing things about the hCG diet is how to make up the calories for each meal. The rules are that you must eat 500 calories per day. That is made up of two meals, each with 100 grams of protein - chicken, lean beef or non-oily fish - some of the allowed vegetables and a piece of fruit.
So the way to work it out for each meal is to figure out the calories for your protein and the piece of fruit, deduct from 500 and make up the rest of the calories from the vegetables.
We must have been doing something wrong, because this has resulted in me having to plough through immense amounts of vegetables. I have been eating say an apple, 100g of free range chicken breast and about 20 acres-worth of lettuce. Or a small forest of asparagus. I've been getting worried about the effect my vegetable consumption might be having on global warming!
Finding a consistent reference source for calories is where it gets tricky. We have been using a New Zealand Calorie Counter book and also comparing that with various sources on the net. They all seem to give slightly different readings. And of course the American sources are in pounds and ounces and we use the metric system, so we have had to become mathematical geniuses along the way.
Reading through some of the forums I found that it is okay to have less calories - between 400 and 500 is okay. By reducing the calories it has meant a more manageable vegetable intake - and hopefully might help save the icecaps from melting.
However I suspect that has made me feel slightly hungry and hence my mind has been wandering and thinking about forbidden fruits, as it were.
I also started to think that possibly my hCG might be losing strength and so I have increased the dosage.
The result has been that my losses have normalised somewhat. Averaging 400 grams per day now - total weight loss since my last blogpost has been 2.9kg.
My measurements have also improved. Marie says I have gone down a dress size. That's a great comfort to me.
