Twelve for Twenty Twelve… Inspired thoughts under the stars in Egypt. By Jo Hutchinson

It was late one night when I went to the rooftop with my evening cup of tea, here in Luxor, Egypt.
As I sat looking across to the beautiful waters of the Nile, I was touched by the beauty and awe of this moment.
With stunningly clear evening skies and an abundance of stars, and the mountains on the West Bank of Luxor gently lit up, I thought about what’s around the corner, namely twenty-twelve.
It was at this moment with pen and paper on hand that I wrote the following 12 principles to guide us through the changes in 2012.
I hope it inspires you.
1. The Earth supports all life. Respect and nurture your source of life, the Earth
2. Remember the 3 R’s – what can you Reduce, Recycle or Re-use?
3. Change is the essence of life. Learn to embrace it. Just as the sunsets each day, tomorrow is a new dawn, a new day.
4. Take time out to ‘smell the roses’. Surrender to the beauty of nature and feel its healing benefits.
5. All lessons in life are ultimately lessons in love and the ability to love.
6. Find your voice. Speak up. Say what needs to be said and say it from a place of love, compassion and wisdom.
7. The sweetest symphony is the sound of laughter. How beautiful it is to listen to the joy of children laughing and having fun. Lighten up. Loosen up.
8. Breathe – stretch – move. The body is made to move. Honor your body.
9. Have the intention to be open to learning new things. This is how we evolve and this is what feeds our soul.
10. You always have a choice. The power is in what you choose.
11. How you spend your time, money and what you think about reflects what’s important to you. Take a minute to check that this aligns with what’s important to you - your dreams and goals.
12. It’s OK to ask for help. We are all in this together.
Remember that life is a journey. Just as in nature, there are cycles of change and continuous movement. When time are challenging, have faith and know that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Our challenges provide us with the greatest opportunity for personal growth. Equally, there are times of smooth sailing which also teach us about ourselves. Savor each moment, each step and see what life is teaching you about you.
