The facts about the Super City
The Supercity is a corporate model designed by business to run Auckland, like a business, by business, for business.
Public Assets worth $28 billion dollars will be stripped from public control.
These Assets like Water, Transport, Waste management, Parks etc will become Council Controlled Organisations (CCO’s)
These CCO’s will not be subject to public scrutiny.
CCO’s will be run under confidentiality with no public checks & balances.
There is no democracy for the public majority under either the Government or Royal commissions proposed models.
Large corporations will not own, but profit from the long term management & operational contracts handed out.
We the public will pay for services we already own outright.
Our Public assets will be Commercialised, Corporatised and then Privatised
Metrowater is a perfect example of profiteering from essential public services.
The intention is to set up one giant metrowater and spread user pays for waste water across the entire Auckland region.
The public’s role is to to become one big cash cow.
The Alternative
The alternative is for all Public assets to be run as NOT for Profit Organisations (NFPO) thereby making essential Public services accessible and affordable for all citizens.
Originally Auckland was run by the Auckland Regional Authority (ARA) and Borough Councils, this model was dismantled in the 1980’s under Rogernomics so private companies could profit from public services.
The destruction of this system was called amalgamation. The Supercity is the continuation of this process.
