"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. So is a lot" - Albert Einstein.

We can see, just by observing the daily news that every story (or piece of knowledge) we see (or hear) has been perceived (for the most part) in a way that the people in power want us to see it.   We are only seeing a pin-point of the whole picture, a blurring of reality.

Life, my friend, is indeed an illusion (but that is another story altogether!)  The point I am trying to make is that most things we see are biased, in particular politically biased, in this materialistic society that we live in (we are only permitted a little knowledge). This is just fact cold hard fact.

A classic example of "A little knowledge is dangerous [...]" is the labelling on our food stuffs and skincare products as 'Natural.' For most people the 'knowledge' (or assumption) that something is natural leads them to believe that it exists in or is formed by nature (therefore not artificial), but alas the cosmetic industry has other ideas!

'The cosmetic industry's definition of 'natural' is any synthetic chemical that can be 'derived from' a natural substance even if the manufacturing process requires the use of toxic chemicals.' ( from ONE Group Your Questions Answered Leaflet)   In this case "A little knowledge is dangerous [...]" and could possibly kill us with the harmful toxins in our 'natural products' (I kid you not).

Indeed, things are not always as they appear. Thank goodness we are now coming into a phase of living more consciously and making more informed choices. Whereas previously we may have taken an expert's word as gospel we are now doing our own research (albeit google or wikipedia) and we are becoming the 'experts'.

This is also where I feel the last part of Einstein's quote comes in (alot of knowledge can be dangerous too)... we need to discern where we get our information from and if that source is indeed credible.

The humble piece of knowledge I would like to impart to you in this posting is simply to check exactly what you are putting in and on your body. Yes, most of us within the holistic field already do this with our food, but how many of us know what is exactly in that inconspicuous bottle of our favourite sweet smelling shampoo?

As the great Hippocrates said himself 'Let food be thy medicine' - please let me know if you would really want to eat that shampoo after you have found out what's in it!

So, I leave you with one last quote and some links to some more informed knowledge which I hope that you discern for yourself...

“They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.” Terry Pratchett(English Writer, b.1948)
