Q. Do you have to have your own domain name (url address)? I'm not too sure what advantages the domain address gives - can you expand please.A. You don't have to have your own domain name, however, you can point a domain name (url) at your member webpage or blog if you wish.
The idea with using your own domain name is that you have a web address that is easily identifiable (ie. www.mydomainname.com) that you can put on any literature (business cards, flyers, email addresses, or word of mouth) to get your name out there.
You wouldn’t put www.holisticliving.co.nz/members/holisticliving/webpages/mywebpage on a business card or a flyer and you probably wouldn’t remember the name yourself if you were trying to explain to someone where to go to see your products/services online.
All you would need to do is point the domain name to your member webpage and voila, anyone who types it in goes direct to your page.
Much easier to say “go to www.mydomainname.com than trying to explain where to go on holistic living.
You would only do this with a domain name (url) that is not already pointing to a website.
